Pine Creek Railroad

The Pine Creek RR was founded in 1952 as a club, when three men purchased a small steam locomotive and installed rail at their first location on US Route 9 in Marlboro, NJ. This narrow gauge (3' gauge) operating steam preservation railroad was second after Edaville in Massachusetts (est. 1948), and the first such railroad to utilize volunteers to run every aspect of the operation. When Edaville closed in 1992, the Pine Creek RR "inherited" the title of oldest continually-operating steam preservation railroad. Many tourist lines and museum railroads of today owe their very existence to experience gained working on the Pine Creek in the early days. Many founders of these lines either worked at or witnessed the early days of Pine Creek. In many ways, the Pine Creek RR invented the tourist and museum railroad industry.
